Champagne Hubert Soreau
Le Clos L’Abbé V11
Champagne Le Clos l’Abbé by Hubert Soreau is the result of 100% Chardonnay coming from vines of the renowned Clos l’Abbé just outside Epernay in the Vallée de la Marne.
It can be defined as a real “garage” wine (wine garage) in the noblest sense of the expression, which indicates wines produced in batches of such small size that they can be stored in a little space such as a garage. The term has a French derivation and was born in the 90s in reference to wines from some micro-farms in the Bordeaux area that worked on tiny plots of land with exceptional results.
Champagne Le Clos l’Abbé is a Blanc de Blancs grown in three separate lots of Clos l’Abbé for an area of only 21 ares (0.21 hectares). Vintage 2011, this Champagne vinifies and ages in wood barrels from Hautvillers forest, not in a garage, but in the cellar of his wife Nathalie, who also produces her Champagnes under the name of Champagne J.Vignier. Tirage sur liège, aging for at least 6 years before dègorgement à la volée and no dosage (Brut Nature) for this Champagne produced in very limited quantities for only 1,038 bottles.
Champagne Le Clos l’Abbé reveals itself with a dense and rich bouquet: fruity notes of white peach, pear and citrus, toasted notes, hazelnut, and buttery notes of brioche. In a few minutes the bouquet is enriched with white pepper and dried fruit. The mouth opens with a straight and lively minerality that gives way to a softness and generosity that make it an ideal Champagne to accompany a whole meal.
