Champagne Henriot
L’inattendue 2016
The Chamoagne L’Inattendue by Maison Henriot is the creation of the eighth generation of the family, represented by Gilles de Larouzière Henriot, a precise expression of one of the Maison‘s core principles: cultivating the diversity of Champagne’s terroirs.
This is how L’Inattendue was born, from 100% Chardonnay grapes harvested along the gentle vine-growing slopes of the Côte des Blancs, precisely in the Grand Cru of Avize. A Champagne that perfectly reflects this terroir and narrates it, in purity, through a single vintage and a single variety.
This vintage, 2016, was characterised by complex climatic conditions and strong extremes. After a clear start to the year, spring brought with it substantial rainfall. The heavy rainfall continued until early summer, only to give way to a severe drought. The harvest, which began on 18 September for Maison Henriot, was characterised by a certain heterogeneity of ripening, with the Chardonnay in particular ripening later than usual.
This Champagne Blanc de Blancs cannot leave one indifferent. The aromatic profile is precise, fine, chiselled. It is a clear statement. The minerality and citrus notes are dominant. The nose is chalky, ethereal; fresh lemon can be sensed, accompanied by menthol notes. The consistency is perfect in the mouth where it enters straight, sharp, intense.
