Champagne Dom Pérignon
Vintage 2013
Dom Pérignon has a creative ambition: the relentless pursuit of a harmony that is a source of emotion. Every creative process has its constraints, and for Dom Pérignon it is the vintage: an absolute commitment to witness the vintage of one and only one year, whatever the challenge, going so far as not to declare the vintage if necessary. Time is of the essence in the Dom Pérignon equation. It takes at least eight years of elaboration to achieve the aesthetic ideal of the Maison. In the darkness of the cellars, inside the bottles, the wine undergoes an active transformation in contact with the yeasts, to achieve the harmony that is the hallmark of Dom Pérignon. It is there that everything takes place, with great precision, on the edge of extraordinary balance.
The 2013 vintage retraces the glorious steps of the late vintages. After a cold and wet winter followed by a very cool and rainy spring, the vines began their growth a fortnight late. The hot, dry summer, with the greatest exposure to the sun ever recorded in Champagne, was particularly beneficial for the quality of the grapes. The rains at the beginning of September soon gave way to wind, which kept the bunches healthy until the harvest. The harvest lasted from 28 September to 15 October, with grapes revealing a promising balance between acidity and roundness.
Dom Pérignon Vintage 2013 is delicate on the nose and reveals colourful touches. The green of eucalyptus, mint and vetiver. The yellow-orange of mirabelle, apricot and orange blossom. The brown of pepper, cardamom and liquorice stick. The silver of iodine and roasted aromas. The palate is elegant, clean and precise. The attack is enveloping and ethereal. Then, the fine, silky texture of the wine is amplified. On the finish, it releases a saline, savoury sensation that reveals a profound coherence.
